DAY 29 - April 29th, 2009

DAY 29! :)

Today is the official weigh-in for 28 days on juice-FEASTING.

I have lost a total of 21 lbs so far.
Holy cow!!

I am back in my jeans from two years ago which is still one size larger than I was when I moved to Kansas.

I am happy, grateful and thrilled! :)

If you are not up for juice-FEASTING. Consider going raw or partially raw or partially juicing to help improve your energy and your waist-line. :)

No pics today to leave the focus on an amazing feat of reaching four weeks of juice-FEASTing.

Have a super night,
Pauline :)

DAY 28 - April 28th, 2009

HELLO LOVELY JUICE-FEASTING READERS! :)

Check out my new logo, you are the first to see it (technically) unless you just saw it on Facebook first.

Today is the END of WEEK FOUR! WOWIE!! :)

Tomorrow is an official weigh-in day.
I swear to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth...really...

It's hard to believe but the contents in the left picture created the dark green in the right picture! I think what is missing in the bowl of cu
t up stuff is two pieces of kale which would make the darker color.

Recipe: (1/2) lemon, watermelon, (1) cucumber, (10) stalks of celery, (2) pieces of kale.

Today started out with another glass of carrot juice. YUM!

I highly suggest this no matter what you are eating.

Check out the comparison picture below!

Recipe: (2) pieces of kale, (2) cucumbers, (2) green apples, (10) celery stalks, (1) lemon.

I got a little carried away. :)
LOVE that orange.
I have a new shirt the color of carrot juice.
Maybe some of you have seen it?
It is FAB.

Ok - more about yummy juice.... :)

This pinkish colored-delight is brunch
(sort of). After the huge glass
of carrot juice
I didn't need anything for a while.

It is watermelon, (1) lemon,
(2) very small bunches of celery.

Very simple and very good!

I had a Kombucha somewhere in the afternoon also. Raspberry. :)

This next amazingly green juice is:
(1) lime
(2) small bunches of celery
(4) tiny green apples
(2) cucumbers

Have a lovely Sunday!

If you have any questions, please feel free to write me. If I don't know the answer - I will find it! p :)

DAY 24 - April 24th, Juicing tips, tricks & pics

Hello all!!! :)

Today is day 24!!!

Juicing is going awesome
and I am so HAPPY!!! :)

Today, I will share with you some tips, tricks & more pics!

I have timed myself an
d juicing from beginning to end (including a clean juicer) is exactly 30 minutes.

Here is how I do it:
1.) take everything that you want in your juice out of the refrigerator
2.) wash everything
3.) cut everything - like in the nice photo above!
4.) start to juice
5.) clean everything including the juicer
6.) pour juice into a mason jar. I fill a pint-sized mason jar first - put the
lid on it and then put it into the refrigerator. Then, I drink the rest of the juice from another mason jar until I am ready for the other one.
7.) you can do #6 before #5 - it's u
p to you.

Many people juice everything for the day in the morning. I rarely do this because I don't really know what i want to drink ALL day long.

He
re is another tip. Go with the flow. There were no cucumbers at Dillons yesterday. Did you guys go buy all the 65 cent cucumbers?!??? :) Anyway, you can mix and match and pull a juice together nicely.

I just made one with (2) green apples, (1/2) lemon, (1) small bunch celery and watermelon. When my mint comes up, I will add mint to this and OMG will that be AMAZING!

I have gotten in the recent habit of having a small glass of carrot juice to start out the day. It is rich, refreshing and filling. Many juicers start the day with a green drink because it is more alkalizing. I say, do what you want and listen to your body! It is always good to mix and match.

If you have any questions or thoughts, please write a message. I am good about responding! :)

Have a lovely weekend, Pauline

DAY 21 - April 21st, 2009

DAY 21!!!

It's been 3 whole weeks of juicing!

WOWIE!

I am still breathing, standing, walking, talking, working, driving, sleeping, dreaming and having bowel movements! :) Isn't that amazing!??!!!

So, I did weigh myself again today and you know how weighing yourself can be funny and fluctuate from one day to the next. Well, it says that I am now 162 lbs! That is a good official weight at 21 days meaning that I lost 5 lbs per week on average. That is pretty cool. I feel good which is the most important thing and the whole point of this! So, again, I have decided to stop at a completion of day 40. This feels good and right to me which means that I am half-way through this. :)

This yummy green drink was breakfast. It is (2) green apples, (2) cucumbers, (1/2) bunch of celery, little bit of parsley.

This lovely rose-colored juice is (1) bunch celery, (2) oranges with the peels cut off, (1) huge cucumber, watermelon.

I had an unexpected busy evening so I ended up drinking two Kombuchas. That goodness for those. :)

Have a super night, p :)

DAY 20 - April 20th, 2009

DAY 20!!!

WHOA...........

Time flies when you are having FUN!

I did weigh myself...just to see even though the official weigh in is tomorrow and I weight 163.5 - so that i
s a total of 13.5 lbs. It feels like more than that though. I have also decided to stop on day 40 and I feel quite good about this. So today is the half-way mark, thus, the weigh in.

This beautiful orange in the picture above is a shot of carrot juice (about (6) carrots) that I had this morning. It is so fresh and inviting. I had this and wasn't hungry for a full hour or so afterward. FULL of great nutrients. YUM! Maybe I will do that again tomorrow. :)

Yesterday, I had several yummy juices and I photographed two of them. They are below with their
recipes.

This was breakfast yesterday.

It is (2) cucumbers (which are 65 cents at Dillons right now, organic of course and that is just insanely AMAZING!! Often, they run upwards of $2.60 as they did in Asheville last week. Don't eat all of them, save some for me if you go get a FEW. :) Thank you. )

(1) little bunch of celery (very very small at the moment)
a little bit of watermelon just for a nice flavor and
(1) green apple.

Hmmm....I can't find my other picture from yesterday... Oops...
OK - that was:

watermelon
(2) pears
(1) bunch celery
(2) cucumbers

Talk to you tomorrow!! Pauline :)

(2) cukes and (1/2) lemon.

This picture is from Friday's lunch that I shared with my fabulous friend, Monaica! Check her out at www.SheBuildsEmpires.com. It's true!! She does build empires.
So anyway, we had lunch. :)

It was watermelon, (1) lemon, (2) oranges, (1/2) bunch of celery.

SWEET and REFRESHING!

DAY 16 - April 16th, 2009

Day 16 is going awesome. :)

My energy is pretty dang high and I am sleeping great!

This lovely green drink is
(1) bunch celery, (2) cucumbers,
(1) green apple, a bit of parsley.

Today I ran a bit late and I missed making a juice so I picked up two Kombuchas from the store. Kombucha is raw and organic. Here is what it says on the bottle:
KOMBUCHA (pronounced kom-BOO-cha) is a handmade Chinese tea that is delicately cultured for 30 days. During this time, essential nutrients form like: Active Enzymes, Viable Probiotics, Amino Acids, Antioxidants, and Polyphenols. All these combine to create an elixir that immediately works with the body to restore balance and vitality.

I really like Guava, Grape, GingerBerry and the Trilogy. :) Dillons and Food for Thought have them priced well.

This yummy pink delight is:
watermelon, (1/2) lemon,
(10) stalks of celery, (3) kiwis

Part 3 of 3: The Physiology of Fasting

Spiritual Fasting
Part 3 of 3: The Physiology of Fasting
Extracts from Spiritual Nutrition by Gabriel Cousens

On the physical level of fasting there are many techniques and approaches. Gabriel views fasting as a way to abstain from that which is toxic to body and mind, and thus eliminating toxins from the system. The physiology of fasting favors healthy cells. Another definition of fasting includes any process which initiates the process of autolysis – poorly functioning cells are destroyed first in the process of fasting, and their components are broken down and re-metabolized. This usually begins after three days of juice or water fasting, which is the classic meaning, as compared to something like a “spirulina fast” or other types of food fasts. These are not really fasts. We stop a fast when the elimination of waste products is complete and the autolysis finishes with the unhealthy cells and begins to break down the healthy cells. This point is usually indicated by a return of appetite and the disappearance of the white coating on the tongue.

Healthy functioning of the body begins to deteriorate when the normal process of cell regeneration and building becomes slower than the breakdown of unhealthy cells in the body. This is usually connected with the accumulation of toxins in the tissues and cells to an extent that it interferes with the proper nutrition and rebuilding of cells. The Wendt Doctrine of excess protein intake, causing a protein storage disease by blocking the basement membrane, is a clear description of how this works. When the basement membrane is clogged, nutrients, including oxygen, cannot get through to the cells, and waste products cannot diffuse out of the cells back into the capillary blood¬stream. The result is that the cells begin to malfunction and degenerate. With excess toxicity and without sufficient nutrients, the process of new cell growth slows down. When cells are degenerating faster than new cells are regenerating, we experience aging and disease. It is said that in our industrialized nations many more people die of overnutrition than malnutrition. Fasting helps to clear out the basement membrane so that nutrients can begin to get to the cells and new cell growth can be stimulated. The proteins from the broken down cells are remetabolized and used to rebuild new cells during the fast, so that even without the intake of exogenous protein for cell building, cells regenerate.

During a fast, the eliminative systems of the body, the skin, lungs, liver, kidney, and bowels become more active. Because the body is not spending energy digesting and eliminating fresh toxins in the system, it is able to direct all its energy toward the elimination of old accumulated toxins and waste products. The increased release is usually evidenced by foul breath, body odor, dark urine, increased mucous secretion, and foul smelling bowel contents. Because of the extra energy freed by resting the digestive system and because of detoxification and the fresh minerals gained from a juice fast, fasting has a normalizing effect on the biochemical and mineral balance in the tissues and is a tonifier of the nervous system

DAY 14 - April 14th, 2009

Day 14! WOWIE!!

Today is the end of 2 full weeks of juicing. The longest juice FAST that I have been on is 10 days.
Overall, I do not have the weakness felt during a fast because this is a FEAST. :)

This yummy picture is of carrot juice. I have been juicing it every morning for my family that is here. The color is amazing and I am so happy that I finally got around to taking a picture to share.

This next picture is breakfast. I love how the color separate.

It is (5) carrots, (3) pieces of kale, (1) lemon, (1) bunch celery, (1) green apple.

HOWEVER, I feel that I made an award winning juice today!!!

It was AB-FAB! :)

(1/2) lime, (2) green apples, (1) bunch of celery and (1/6) pineapple. :O
OMG! :)

Today is not a good day on the juice fast. I think that I am detoxing and my mind is playing tricks on me about being on the juice feast. This is to be expected and I am so thankful that I continue to make YUMMY juices. :)

I arrive home Tuesday night which will be Day 14!! I will weigh myself Wednesday morning and share the news. I definitely feel lighter and I went on a 90 minute hike today which felt wonderful.

Peace, Pauline :)

DAY 10 - April 10th, 2009

DAY 10!!!

Hello all,
Yesterday was day 10!

I had a lot of phlegm clearing out from somewhere. I felt pretty good although again I am being tested by being in wonderful Asheville. :)

These sill little iron figurines are along the windowsill here. It's fun to have them posing in the pictures....

Breakfast was: (1) large cucumber, (6) pieces of red lettuce, (10) celery stalks, (1) green apple, (1) lemon.

Lunch was (6) carrots, (1) lemon, (1/4) pineapple, (1) green apple, (1) bunch of celery.

VERY TASTY!

We went to the Biltmore Estate yesterday! It was awesome. I have been there many times before buy years and years ago. They opened four new guest rooms that took them three years to restore!

In the evening, I did go to the David Wolfe event. He is interesting, as always, yet I had not met him before. More on David upcoming... :)

Part 2 of 3: Spiritual Fasting

Hello all,

This is part 2 of the email on juicing that I just received from the Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center. Please enjoy, Pauline :)

................................................................

Spiritual Fasting

The Ultimate Way to Reactivate the Youthing Gene Expression
Part 2 of 3: Extracts from Spiritual Nutrition by Gabriel Cousens

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fasting Activates the Youthing Gene

Fasting, particularly Spiritual Fasting, diminishes the physical stresses of excess food, emotional stresses, psychological stresses, spiritual stresses, and environmental stresses, all of which are optimal for activating the youthing genes. Fasting is an accelerated form of calorie restriction.
Gabriel regularly sees evidence indicating an activation of the youthing gene expression. Gabriel observes people experiencing a radical youthing of body and mind.
Green Juice Fasting consistantly and significantly begins the process of reversing chronic degenerative diseases such as: high blood pressure, chronic pain, fatigue, depression, anxiety, digestive disorders, Syndrome X and diabetes.
Through the process of fasting, people turn on their youthing genes and reprogram to an earlier stage of their genetic expression, returning them to health. It becomes clear that not only what we eat, but what we don’t eat, speaks to our genes.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Turning On Our Youthing Genes

Foods that we eat, or don’t eat, communicate with our genes, for better or for worse! Foods do not change the genotype, which is the physical structure of the genes... the foods we eat do change the way the message in the genes is expressed.
The principle being that not only what we eat, but how we live and the stresses that we create, directly affects gene expression. The implications of detailed genetic research is quite exciting. One of the most important elements is that we have a potential, under the right conditions, to access all our genetic information from every stage of development, from embryo to an adult. The genetic expression of every cell in our body, is potentially accessible at any time. The significance of this is that through proper living, diet, fasting, lifestyle, exercise and emotional, mental, and spiritual development, we have the opportunity to activate our youthing genes.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Caloric Restriction

Dr. Spindler noted that the caloric restriction (Which happens naturally with Fasting and eating a Vegan Live Food Diet) prevents deterioration or genetic change gradually over life span and reverses aging in a short period of time.
His research, shows that it doesn’t matter what age you begin. Calorie Restriction has an effect of turning on the expression of the youthing genes, and turning off the expression of the aging genes. We all have the full memory of all our gene expressions in all our chromosomes, all we have to do is push the right button to get a healthy expression.
This finding suggests that calorie restriction could potentially reverse aging and improve and extend lifespan.
An important part of Dr. Spindler’s research, is that short-term caloric restriction can turn on the majority of the anti-aging genes. His impression, is that if people lose ten pounds (common during a 7-Day Green Juice Fasting Retreat), regardless of what their weight is before they start the diet, many of their physiological parameters of health will improve. These include: improved insulin sensitivity, improved blood glucose, decreased blood insulin levels, decreased heart rate, improved blood pressure and a potential anti-cancer effect.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Taking people on Spiritual fasts four times per year for many years, I am continually amazed by the power of this healing process. Paul Bragg, one of the fathers of the holistic health movement, expressed this phenomenon simply: ‘‘The greatest discovery by modern man (woman) is the power to rejuvenate physically, mentally, and Spiritually with rational fasting."

DAY 9 - April 9th, 2009

Hello from Asheville, North Carolina!
Here is a scenic picture of a mason jar full of yummy juice. :)

Guess what?!!!!!!!
David Wolfe is in Asheville tomorrow night giving a lecture! How crazy is that? David Wolfe is a MAJOR player in the raw food world, MAJOR. I am going to go tomorrow night if it is not sold out. I will know tomorrow...

I easily survived my travels today in regards to juice-FEASTing. I drank the first juice at 5am, had an herbal tea during my layover and my tummy started to rumble when I landed here. Phew!

I added a new ingredient today: GINGER!
It made this drink super tangy.

Recipe: 1" piece of ginger, (6) carrots, (1) apple, (1/4) pineapple, (1) bunch of celery.

Today, my will power was tested big time. My mother made home-made bread and a
strawberry-rhubarb pie! :O I survived!! Phew!!

I went to an AMAZING grocery store today called, Earth Fare. OMG! Wow! I would like to live next to this store, seriously. I was scoping out the all-natural products that I would like to carry...so stay tuned on that!

This is dinner: (1) cucumber, (1) lemon, (5) carrots, (1) little bunch of parsley, (2) pieces of Lucinato kale, (10) celery.

I am going to finish this one now, so must run...

Peace, p :)

DAY 8 - April 8th, 2009

Isn't this juice GORGEOUS!!
I love the color.
Can someone please make a fabric that color for me? :)

It is (1) bunch celery
(6) carrots
(1) beat
(1) apple
small bit of parsley

Lunch was delightful,fruity and tangy!

(1) container of strawberries,
(2) lemons, (1) apple,
(1) bunch celery,
(4) pieces of romaine lettuce.

Here is a cool picture of this juice after
it settled a bit.

Dinner was (2) green apples, (1) bunch celery, parsley and (3) kiwi.

I am out of town for the next several days. STILL JUICING THOUGH! :) I will try to get all my recipes on the blog with pics while I am gone but we will see.

Please see the handy "receive blog directly to your email in box" to the right and down just a big. This is a very handy tool. If you enter your email, then when I update this blog you will receive an email with the title and the first line or two of the blog. You can then click the link to easily read it. This is a new addition to the blog so I want to point it out.

Thank you for participating and reading! I am getting great questions and I hope to update you all with those and the questions in the near future. Peace, p :)

WEEK 1 UPDATE!

The Weigh-In: I lost 8.5 lbs this week so I now weigh 168.5.
My cheekbones are more protruding and my tummy has gone down a lot.

The Grocery: I spent a total of $153.46 this week.
This is just under $22 per day which equals roughly $7.30 per juice.
There are definitely some juices and ingredients less expensive then others.

Overall Personal Feeling: I feel awesome!
I did notice that if I got hungry and didn't have a juice pretty quick that I started thinking about food and, "why was I doing this anyway?", etc. Then, just after I had my juice I would feel so happy, fulfilled and refreshed. It was a VERY fast shift from one to the other. I learned my lesson and will be better about how I time my day to juice. For example today, I just made lunch and dinner because I know that I will not have time later. :)

Tuesday, April 7, 2009

Evening - Day 7, April 7th, 2009

Good evening all,

IT'S DAY 7!!!! :)

Wowie, it has gone fast.

This green tonic was breakfast today.
It is (8) celery stalks, (2) apples,
(1) lemon and (2) cukes.

This next orange goddess was lunch!
She was delectable and tasty for sure,
I even shared some with a friend! :)

(2) cukes, (1/6) pineapple, (1) green apple, (5) celery, and (8) carrots.

Usually, I don't eat this much fruit and certainly not on a regular raw diet but since I am a juicing-FEASTER for 92 days I am juicing fruit. It is actually recommended to have a green juice in the morning because it is more alkaline, a fruit juice in the afternoon and then another green juice.

Anyone notice that I haven't been drinking FOUR quarts?
I just can't seem to do it. I am full. Really, I swear. So, I really need to get my calories in the juice that I am drinking. This is important as well as exercise so that my muscle don't break
down, etc.

Alas, dinner.
This drink has a darker green because I put a lot of parsley in it, plus (1) apple, (2) cukes, (10) celery stalks, (1) lemon. It was tangy and refreshing.

Tomorrow...will be exciting!
Why?
Because I will be weighing myself for my official weekly weigh-in. I will also share with you how I feel after one full week. Then, I will tally up my grocery lists and determine how much a day this cost. :)

Oh, and I forgot to give you my grocery list from the 6th.
(3) celery @ $4.47
(1) parsley @ $1.69
(6) apples @ $4.50
(9) cukes @ $ 8.91
(1) 5 lb bag of carrots @ $4.49
(5) lemons @ $2.45
Total: $26.51

Monday, April 6, 2009

Evening - Day 6, April 6th, 2009

This gorgeous green juice tasted so clean, clear and fresh!! WOW! It is
(1) bunch celery, (2) green apples,
(1) lemon, (2) cukes.

For lunch today I had: (1) bunch celery, (1/4) pineapple, (3) cukes, (1) lemon, (5) carrots, little bit of parsley.

Here's the thing about parsley - it enhances the taste of whatever it is with! It has a great taste in a juice.

Have an excellent evening, p :)

"Fasting to Enhance Spiritual Life"

Hi all,

I received this email today from the Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center which is Dr. Gabriel Cousen's center. Gabriel is at the corner-stone of the raw and juicing movement (in my opinion). It is his research assistant, David Rainoshek, created the 92-day Juice-FEAST.

Anyway, this is fantastic information and such good timing to share this with you! :)

Happy Reading, Pauline :)

Fasting to Enhance Spiritual Life
Part 1 of 3: Extracted From Spiritual Nutrition by Dr. Gabriel Cousens

Fasting allows our physical bodies to turn toward the assimilation of pranic energy rather than biochemical energy. By accelerating the purification of the body, it allows the physical body to become a better conductor of the Kundalini energy. This improves the alignment of the chakras and subtle bod¬ies, which makes it easier for the cosmic prana to enter the body and increases the possibility of the awakening of the Shakti Kundalini. By removing toxins from the system, we not only become healthier, but we remove blocks from the body and therefore enhance the movement of all energy in the system, as well as of the spiritualizing force of the Kundalini. Through repeated fasts we also become clearer channels for the assimilation of cosmic energy into our systems. We also increase our sensitivity to the movement of the Kundalini. The more we are in touch with the feeling of this God Force, the easier it is to be motivated to live in a way that will continue to enhance its development.

Although formally defined as complete abstinence from food and water, fasting, in a larger context, means to abstain from that which is toxic to mind, body, and soul. A way to understand this is that fasting is the elimination of physical, emotional, and mental toxins from our organism, rather than simply cutting down on or stopping food intake. Fasting for spiritual purposes usually involves some degree of removal of oneself from worldly responsibilities. It can mean complete silence and social isolation during the fast which can be a great revival to those of us who have been putting our energy outward. Gandhi used to observe one day of silence per week. Fasting helps to manifest a healthy body, mind, and spiritual balance and therefore to bring forth the knowledge of God within as Love.

Morning - Day 6, April 5th, 2009

Wowie, good day! Here is something worth noting... I suggest NOT having juice after 7-8pm. I had so much energy last night that I could hardly go to sleep.Have your last juice of the day before 7pm! And although I went to bed very late, I woke up early full of energy.

This lovely mixture was lunch yesterday. Recipe: (1) bunch of celery, (1/2) lemon, (4) kiwis- with the fur off, (10) carrots, (1/3) pineapple, (1) romaine lettuce, (1) green apple. YUM!

Dinner last night was: (2) red apples, (3) carrots, (2) red lettuce, (3) cukes, (1) lemon, little bit of parsle
y.
Today's breakfast was a wild concoction! (1) red pepper, (1/2) red leaf lettuce, (2) cukes), (4) carrots, (2) mustard green leaves, (1) green apple.
The wild pa
rt is the addition of the mustard greens. It made the whole drink a tad spicy which I LOVE. The color also came out a very earthy green.

I have some v
ery exciting things to share today, stay tuned for more great information!! Peace, p :)

JUICING 101 - The Importance of the Colon

Hello all, All raw food folks and particularly the juicing ones are super interested in the colon! What's coming out, what's not coming out and all that great stuff. :)

The two BEST products are Liquid Betonite and Psyllium Intestinal Cleansing powder and they should be used together for optimal results.

Liquid Betonite is a mineral-rich volcanic clay used for hundreds of years to aid the colon. The clay binds 40-times its own weight in positively charged substances (aka toxic materials). To learn more about Liquid Betonite click HERE.

Psyllium is a natural bulking agent and it assists in natural stimulation of bowel peristalsis. To learn a whole lot more about Psyllium Intestinal Cleaning click HERE. Additionally, if you plan to start juicing the raw world also loves enemas and colonics!

I am writing about this today in response to some questions that I am receiving. Keep them coming!! :) Peace, p

DAY 5 - April 5th, 2009

Hello all! :)
This is my gorgeous breakfast!
Recipe:
(1) beat, (5) carrots, (10) celery stalks, (3) cukes, (1/2) lemon, (1) romaine lettuce.
It created 1.5 quarts.
Most of my recipes really make one quart or just slightly more than that - just in case you are following the recipes.

Today, I feel awesome!! I also woke up feeling quite energized and thinner - so I did weigh myself this morning and I have lost another 2 lbs for a total of 6.5 lbs. This is a good sign that I am detoxing pretty well
. :)

I realize now that I forgot to post a blog last night for dinner, etc.
I had (1/3) pineapple, (2) cukes, (1) lemon, (5) carrots and (1) apple.

I also went to the grocery store last night, here are the items purchased:
(4) lemons @ $1.96
(7) kiwis @ $3.85
(2) celery @ $2.98
(6) green apples @ 5.03
(3) red leaf lettuce @ $5.37
(1) 5 lbs bag carrots @ $4.49
(2) red bell peppers @ $3.78

total: $35.38
